Kick-off of the 2023 Kinal Prize

Some 70 pharmacy and medical students from Phnom Penh took part on May 21 at the Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Center in a training seminar on the methodology of scientific research in view of the Kinal Prize 2023 which will have as its theme “The relationship between stress and pain “.

After three years of interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kinal Foundation, the actor in the social responsibility policy of PPM-Confirel Group, is therefore relaunching this prize intended to encourage the spirit of innovation and research of health science students.

Led by Sakett Seila, assistant to Dr. Hay Ly Eang, president of the PPM-Confirel Group and the Kinal Foundation, this seminar aimed to guide students in the research work they will undertake within the framework of the Kinal Prize, including data collection and presentation.

The competition takes place in two main stages. Teams must first present a research proposal to the jury. On June 28, the 15 teams selected to participate in the final phase will be designated. The final phase, which consists of an oral presentation and a question-and-answer session with the jury, will take place on December 16, which gives the teams five months to complete their research work.

On May 26, the organizing team of the Kinal Prize made a also presentation to the students of the Institute of Sciences and Health and the Royal Army.

26 teams of students registered to participate in the competition endowed with 1000 usd, 500 usd and 250 usd for the first three teams.

In 2019, the theme of the 7th Kinal Prize was “Evolution of pain treatment from yesterday to today”. 20 groups of students took part. The research topics awarded were:

1st prize: “Study of the use of medicinal plants for the treatment of wound pain during the Khmer Rouge regime compared to the current situation in Skuon village, Soutip commune, Cheung Prey district, Kampong province Cham”.

2nd prize: “Evolution of the management of toothache in children under 12”.

3rd prize: “Evolution of headache management and its associated factors among students of the Royal University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia) over the past three years”.
